ADHD Therapeutic Coaching for Couples
Relationships in which one or both partners have (or think they have) ADHD can be as challenging as they are exciting, creative, humorous, and fulfilling. Rejection Sensitivity, challenges with emotional regulation (outbursts, irritability, and shutdown), confusion and frustration around how tasks are divided and completed (or not!), trouble with time management, and differing styles in how partners express themselves can all take a toll on the partnership.
Therapeutic Coaching for Couples aims to:
- Support partners in communicating effectively with each other about their feelings and needs, especially around their different experiences with ADHD
- Explore how partners can offer practical support to one another when overwhelmed
- Increase each partner’s understanding of their own and each other’s responses to nervous system activation, rejection, criticism, and overwhelm
- Decrease miscommunication, misunderstanding, and shutdown
- Address how tasks in the household are divided and completed
- Explore strategies for time management
- Discuss how ADHD may impact parenting and explore strategies for parenting as a team
Using psychoeducation (education about how your nervous systems operate, how ADHD impacts different functions, and related topics), CBT tools, DBT tools, somatic (body and sensation-based) tools, and contemplative and yogic tools (as requested and appropriate), I will support you in deepening your understanding of yourselves and each other and building your relationship with intention and skill.
